Spring Coralroot
Corallorhiza wisteriana
34.11, -84.72
Field Notes
Description:
One of our somewhat inconspicuous native orchids, Spring Coralroot blooms in early spring and its flowers generally only last a few hours. I was so lucky to be at the right place at the right time when these were blooming!
Habitat:
Widespread through much of Mexico as well as parts of the United States (Rocky Mountains, Appalachians, the Southeast, and the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys). This plant prefers leaf litter in woodland areas and is saprophytic.
Notes:
Spotted along the trail at the Allatoona Pass Battlefield
