Field Notes

Description:

Longhorn milkweed beetle with red and black aposematic coloring.

Habitat:

Spotted on milkweed in a meadow at Boyd Audubon

Notes:

The genus and the species names both mean “four eyes”, which refers to the way that the antennae divide each eye into two - resulting in a lower eye and an upper eye thus making the beetle look like it has 4 eyes.
