Field Notes

Description:

This plant in the Campanulaceae family has purple-blue flowers. The remarkable round head-shaped inflorescence is a dense panicle of about 1.5–3 centimetres (0.59–1.2 in) of diameter, with 15 to 30 flowers. The petals form small tubes with an opening at the top.

Habitat:

Alpine pasture, alt. ~1400 m.

Notes:

This plant prefers lawns, pastures, rock, preferably limestone between 700 and 3000 m. It is a widespread species in the Alpine region.
