Field Notes

Description:

Found this spider in a large muddy pool on roadside in the forest region of sagara near Jog falls. This spider was sitting still near the bank of the pool with two of its back legs clinging on to a leaf of a plant and other legs on the water surface. It was sitting for almost more than 15 minutes in a single spot probably waiting for its prey to come. Im sure there was no fish there, probably it was hunting for larvae of some other insects like dragonfly, damselfly etc. Purposefully i disturbed the spider and it just walked on the surface of the water so easily and sat on another plant near the bank of the pool..!

Habitat:

Muddy roadside pool in forest region with heavy rainfall, Western ghats region.

Notes:

Family- Pisauridae
