Field Notes

Description:

Lions, especially lionesses with cubs often spend time in the many rock outcroppings or kopjes(pronounced like copy) as they are difficult to see until you are right on them. From there they can hunt, rest and raise their young cubs safely.

Habitat:

serengeti

Notes:

At one point we stopped at a kopje for a brief picnic break and the photographers among us walked out a short ways to get a photo of a nearby kopje. Our guide urged us back to the group. On our way back out on our game drive we got a spectacular view of mothers nursing cubs. Our total lion count was nearly 100.
