Field Notes
Description:
Both males and females look similar with red bills, pink feet, white wing patches, and black bellies. The head is brownish-gray with a white eye-ring.
Habitat:
It usually nests in hollow trees. The habitat is quiet shallow freshwater ponds, lakes, and marshes, cultivated land or reservoirs with plentiful vegetation, where this duck feeds mainly at night on seeds and other plant food. They like perching in trees.
Notes:
This is the first year I have seen one of these types of ducks visit tour pond...they were very interesting and beautiful!
