Description:
Big bumblebee, queens reach 2 cm long. Big head and slender body. Two yellow bands on the thorax separated by a black one. In the abdomen shows a yellow band, followed by a black one and a white tip. It has a very long tongue. They built small colonies excavated on the ground.
Bombus hortorum play a very active role in agriculture, as they are frequent pollinators of many crops, including sunflowers, strawberries, apples, and tomatoes.
In the picture they are on Cirsium eriophorum inflorescence.
