Field Notes

Description:

Petal-like, leathery with multicolored zones & smooth undersides.
Cap 3/8" - 23/4" wide, petal to fan or semicircular, often overlapping. Multicolored with russet to brownish transverse zones.
Spore print white.

Habitat:

On logs & stumps if deciduous wood, especially oak.
Range is throughout North America.
These on logs in Cushing Mem. Park in Canton, Ga 30114.

Notes:

Not to be confused with Hairy Parchment/Sterum hirsutum.
