Field Notes

Description:

With a medium wingspan of around 50mm, this Cicada presents with a green head and thorax as well as black markings surrounding yellow most noticeable on the legs. The emerge in spring and they have a very distinct clicking sound while in flight. I think this is a nearly emerged specimen with not as pronounced colours as a full adult and the green eyes.

Habitat:

Endemic to Fynbos habitat as well as riverine forests.

Notes:

This may in fact be a Karoo Cicada flying south from the Karoo region.
