Field Notes

Description:

Beautiful moth about 1 inch long, lots of hair on the body, almost like a ruff behind its head, grey eye spots showing on brownish-grey wings, antennae are coral coloured at base but darker nearer the tips, hairy antennae, face darker. Gorgeous!

Habitat:

Pacific Northwest temperate rainforest. Hot summer days with cool pleasant evenings with lots of mosquitos!

Notes:

I think I am falling in love with moths!

Thanks for the ID Fyn. I looked at the photos and the Bug Guide page and am happy to have a lifer moth!
I see this moth has some similarities to the Large Yellow Underwing spotting I posted last. Does not seem exactly the same though. Any comments?! http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/32568011
This moth arrived on the sheet about 10:45 pm for my first moth event! Yay! He was the second on to arrive.
