Description:

Brown and black spider, wondering if its dangerous. It lives in the rocks next to my deck.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard, adjacent to wooded area.

Notes:

Any ideas on species and whether it is harmful to my family.

This looks like a fishing spider (Dolomedes spp.), which is harmless. They have quite a large legspan and they can be fast. Oh, and I've moved this to Arthropods for you.
