Field Notes

Description:

This is a moth from the Sphingidae family which are otherwise know as hawk moths or sphinx moths. Wingspan of approximately 35-50 mm. The moths abdomen has yellow and black segments similar to those of a bumblebee for which it might be mistaken due to its color and flight similarities.

Habitat:

Found in much of North America except Alaska, Yukon, Nunavut, and Newfoundland. Adults feed on flower nectar during the day.
