Field Notes

Description:

Gigantic leaves, up to 3 m in diameter, that float on the water's surface on a submerged stalk that is 7–8 m in length. I've added my watch for scale.

Habitat:

amazon, flooded forest

Notes:

I was really happy to see these giant lilies in the wild. They are not easy to see in some places, and only grow in certain areas of the Amazon.

Thanks Lauren. I'll look for a frog next time!
This is wonderful....I always wanted to see this with a frog on it! Guess I'll settle for the watch :)
Thanks Sckel. There are many treasures to be found in the Amazon.
You're a lucky guy, found a lost watch in Victoria amazonica.
