Field Notes

Notes:

This particular bird seemed to come up short in the sustained flight category. It was seen foraging near our lodge at ExplorNapo for what appeared to be mostly seeds and other material on the ground. Over a period of fifteen minutes, it would occasionally take to the air for ten or fifteen feet - with little grace, perhaps somewhat reminiscent of Wilbur's and Orville's short hops on December 17, 1903. When flying, it remained close to the ground, either in or just above the area of ground effect.

I've never seen a bird like this before! First thought was a Heron but the bill is too short I think.
