Field Notes

Description:

Hairy, brown with "horn" on carapace.
"Heavy" feet
Palp are strong...appearing like pair of legs
Size +/- 8cm

Habitat:

Found in borrow under rock.
Its tunnel was at the edge of the rock.
On rocky escarpment in arrid bushfeld.

Notes:

Was captured with 7 legs only.
After first moult it lost another leg!
After 2nd moult it had TWO new legs but those were under developed.
Now they seem to be growing well and both legs are moving independently.

Thanks Cameron I do not know. I once tried to get a permit to keep snakes but it was almost more traumatic than getting bitt by one... So these guys we catch, study and realese after a while. With the baboon spiders the release is bit more difficult as they only once in there early life dig a hole.
Interesting little guy. What are the legalities around keeping these dudes in captivity in Nam'? SA sucks with the laws
