Field Notes

Description:

Speckle-bellied keelback is believed to be restricted to Java. In fact, this year alone I spot the species in Sulawesi in two different places (300 km apart). One in a remote, reparian jungle of Gorontalo and this one was spot in an urban area of Manado. It is a beautifully decorated juvenile.

Habitat:

Mixed plantation in an urban area.

Notes:

Rhabdophis chrysargoides is also called Günther's Keelback and has been suggested to be named Javan keelback. The gorontalo spotting is found here http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/31052069
