Field Notes

Description:

My photo details a line through each reniform spot, dark brown patches on the wingtip, dark obicular spots and a humpback appearance. See linking reference for detailed photos.

Habitat:

Found on white sheet illuminated by black light, riverside near the edge of the treeline

Notes:

According to BugGuide, there are two palthis moth species found in America north of Mexico...Palthis asopialis (Faint-spotted Palthis) and Palthis angulalis (Dark-spotted Palthis). Using Mark Dreiling's reference to distinguish these two, it can be concluded that the moth in this photo would be Palthis asopialis (Faint-spotted Palthis).
