Field Notes

Description:

Could not get a better picture because it did not stoped moving! hahaha took it with a mobile with zoom all the way! I've never seen one before and i looked to see if there where other but could not find one.

Habitat:

Vieques is a hot, semi dry island with thick hard vegetation all over. There are small tarantulas everywhere living in hole in the ground, lots of sphaerodactylus , anoles, kingbirds, spider killing wasps and paper wasp. Not a place for a moth to take a vacation.

Utetheisa ornatrix

Comments (2)

Erebidae, Arctiinae, Arctiini, Utetheisa ornatrix. Although Utetheisa pulchella, native from Africa, was first reported in Puerto Rico in 1927, that one is far less common. I think yours is Utetheisa ornatrix f. stretchii from PR. http://www.treknature.com/gallery/South_America/Venezuela/photo238959.htm
