Description:

Some sort of larva. Looks to have a mostly pale green body with orange in the middle, and has black, hairy spines all over it.

Habitat:

Found on some PVC pipe in an oak forest.

More like a Ladybird Larva, I have myself posted some images of the larva stage (though different species) however the body shape is the same and there should be 6 legs, maybe you should keep it until it transforms so you can see what species it is :-)
You are right that this is a larva, but this is a Lady Beetle (Coccinellidae) larva. I don't have the time right now to search for the species. Try searching here - www.bugguide.net.
