Description:

In a field full of coneflowers, there were more of these than any other kind.

Habitat:

"Volunteer" flowers in a field in the woods that had been cleared some time ago, but never planted with anything.

On this one, the broad ID was easy. Species was harder ... sometimes you learn things along the way that seem to muddy the water. But two fellow spotters now agree, so Mexican Hat it is! Many thanks to EmilyUmbarger and Jemma ...

My guess is that these are Mexican Hat coneflowers. How cool!!!
