Twig Looper
Ectropis excursaria
-37.8574, 145.322
Field Notes
Description:
A pale yellow-brown moth with a wingspan of about 25 mm. Both wings showed thin wavy brown, black and white lines. Each fore wing showed a patch of brown which appears to be a characteristic common to Ectropis moths.
Habitat:
Spotted in a nature reserve.
Notes:
Larvae of these moths are loopers. They feed on a large variety of plant species. When they are disturbed they mimic twigs by stretching straight out, clasping on to plants with their last pair of legs.
