Field Notes

Description:

Canada geese are large, light brown birds with a white chin and black neck, head, bill and feet. Canada geese mate for life, and both parents help raise the young. Baby geese (goslings), are covered in yellowish down and leave the nest shortly after hatching.

Habitat:

Lakes, ponds, marshes and rivers. Many Canada geese stay in Minnesota throughout the winter, although some migrate south to any number of states.

Notes:

I spotted these geese along the west edge of Pine Lake near the marsh area on Hwy 29.
