Field Notes

Description:

White-bellied Blue Flycatchers generally measure 15 centimeters in length. The backs of male birds are bright blue and the head, chest and rest of the body below is white. The back of female birds are brown. Female birds have gray heads and red chests and the rest of their bodies below are white white.

Juveniles have a brown back, scaly head and chest and whitish abdomen.

Habitat:

White-bellied Blue-flycatchers are usually around dense, tropical forests. They nest on rock ledges, and breed in ravines and under-developed forests.

Notes:

The calls of White-bellied Blue-flycatchers have been described as soft rambling trills with changes in tone and are spread with hissing, whistling notes.
