Brown Basilisk
Basiliscus vittatus
13.3792, -89.0836
Field Notes
Description:
Large lizard, approximately a foot and a half long, with a crested head. Spotted around noon, just before a thunderstorm.
Habitat:
Seen under large bushes in the open grounds of a local hotel/restaurant; the rural establishment was incorporated into a large patch of secondary growth rainforest and a slow-flowing tropical river, across the street from a thin strip of beach. This lizard seemed wild since it wasn't caged and could have easily wandered on the restaurant property, and was not human-friendly.
Notes:
Sorry for the photo quality - I unknowingly startled the lizard and it was already running away when I first noticed it.
