Field Notes

Description:

Hermit crabs have soft, spirally curved abdomens and that makes them very vulnerable. They carry a salvaged, empty seashell into which the whole body can retract. They mostly use empty shells of sea snails.

Habitat:

Photographed this crab in the soft, white sand beach at Neil Island, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
