Field Notes

Description:

Ascending unbranched stems form loose clump. Plant finely hairy or hairless. Dark green leaves oval, to 1 in. long, sessile, entire. Inflorescence is a loose cluster atop stem. Flowers up to 1/2 in. wide, deep blue, with styles and stamens noticeably longer.

Habitat:

Grows in forest openings, moist meadows, at high elevations. A native plant.

Notes:

Spotted this flower on the Skyline Loop Trail, Mt. Rainier National Park.
