Field Notes

Description:

Last year I kept a praying mantis overnight and it laid an ootheca (egg sac). These are a few of the nymphs that hatched. The first two photos (of the same nymph) are on my finger. The third photo shows a nymph on top of a penny for size comparison. Here is the female the day before she laid the ootheca: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/97276107

Habitat:

The mantis that produced these babies was found on my porch.

Nice macros! There are little mantid nymphs all around where I live, right now. They are all Tenodera sinensis though (Chinese Mantis). I would love to see this added to the Marvelous Mantids of the World mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/15738247
