Field Notes

Description:

Small butterfly with pale greenish tinted underside of the wings, the top set with a yellow centre also a black spot towards the centre. The bottom underside wing has a silver-white spot. If you get to see the upperside of the wings they are golden to orange yellow in colour with the same black spot on the top wings. Both top and bottom wings have a broad black band. I say if you get to see the upperside of the wings as this butterfly rarely stays still for more than a split second and when they do land their wings remain closed.

Habitat:

I have seen several of these butterflies flying around the flower beds down at our local beach here in Turkey. Turkey is one of there breeding grounds as well as North Africa, Southern Europe and into the Middle East.
