Description:
They have a blue body and a white belly and various shades of blue, black, and white. It usually smaller than crow and larger than robin. Blue Jays are known for their complex social systems with tight family bonds and intelligence. Their fondness for acorns helps to spread and grow oak trees after the last glacial period. They are very noisy and make a lot of calls. Blue Jays are birds of forest edges.
Habitat:
They are often found near in forests, oaks, towns, woodlots, parks and cities.
Notes:
Their favorite food are acorns.They stuff food items in their throat pouch to store elsewhere. When eating, they hold a seed or nut in feet and peck it open. Thousands of Blue Jays migrate in flocks along the Great Lakes and Atlantic coasts. Some are present throughout winter in all parts of their range. Some individual jays migrate south one year, stay north the next winter, and then migrate south again the next year. They mimic the sound of hawk to warn other Jays about hawk. They mainly eat nuts, acorns, fruits, small insect and sometime other bird’s eggs.
