Field Notes

Description:

Measuring around 2.4cm, this scarab has a yellowish head and thorax, with brown elytra. These have a thick pale outline. Legs are red with some green patches. Depending on light, the beetle has an overall green sheen.
Christmas Beetle encompasses the species in the genus Anoplognathus, both in Australia and South Africa. They tend to show up in numbers each year around Christmas time, hence the name.

Habitat:

Found in farmland area with patches of tropical rainforeston the Atherton Tablelands.
