Greater Angel-Wing Katydid
Microcentrum rhombifolium
34.4352, -93.0474
Field Notes
Description:
A species of large Katydid common in southeast USA. Believed to be male due to the dark patch above the shoulders. Microcentrum rhombifolium was chosen over other common species due to the yellow coloration of the eyes, the small yellow lines running from its eyes down its neck to the dark patch, the green color of the legs, and the thin, unremarkable antennae. Also, the length between the dark patch and the head--so many other species seem too compact to be a match.
Habitat:
Found on a low branch of a very tall tree, keeping very still and blending in very well. Mixed forest, September, under shady canopy but near an open patch of lawn/garden.
