Field Notes

Description:

Underwing has diagnostic broad white band near trailing edge. Commonly seen soaring above forests. Two endemic races, palawensis found in Palawan and holospilus for the rest of the country. Some authors treat holospilus as a separate species.

Habitat:

spotted with a female mate above the skies approximately 500m from the grassland summit of Mt. Banoi (960masl) at Lobo Batangas, Philippines.

Notes:

can be seen on forests from lowland to over 2000m
