Description:

Superficially these insects resemble beetles but they are actually shield bugs in the Family Plataspidae or Plataspididae. See http://eol.org/pages/2645348/overview. PROVISIONALLY, "black bean bugs." Habitat:

This spotting on house terrace in coastal zone village (surrounded by ocean beach, sago swamp and disturbed forest).

The FOBI website of Indonesian wildlife spottings has some photos of Brachyplatys and perhaps Coptosoma but that site seems to have gone off line so can't check there.
