Field Notes

Description:

Male Great-tailed Grackles are black with bitsof blue-violet colors to the feathers. Because of this, the Great-tailed Grackle is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a "blackbird". Females exhibit a brownish-black color and are significantly smaller. Males also have tails that are almost as long as the body itself.

Habitat:

This bird is native to North and South America. It is commonly found in the southern areas of Texas and Arizona, but its range expands from Kansas to California, and Peru to Venezuela.
