Field Notes

Description:

Unknown wildflower, possibly Helmut Flower (aka Skullcap).

Petals are small and the second image I have posted is a good representation of their color when seen with the naked eye (pale blueish to light lavender). The stalk tends to grow up to 1' and the leaves remain low to the ground. Some plants have multiple flowers running the length of the stalk while others have only a few blooms near the top of the stem.

Habitat:

I've photographed this plant in various locations ranging from a grassy field to the Pine Barrens. They seem to always appear in areas that receive good sunlight.

Notes:

I've researched and researched and have yet to 100% identify this flower, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

It seems from the family Plantaginaceae, perhaps genus Linaria. The flower is very similar to Cymbalaria muralis but w/o the yellow.
