The wings are brown with olive/green squares towards the tip.

Habitat:

Came to porch light at night, mostly oak forested area with several creeks nearby.

Quite right, Jakubko, Virginia Creeper is native ... I mistakenly used a word with a specific meaning in a more general context. Thanks for reminding me. Whether Virginia Creeper actually appears on lists of plants whose hardiness and/or fast growth displaces other species varies from place to place. In my area, Virginia Creeper raises the same general concerns as kudzu and wisteria.
Lovely spotting, Ashley, and Happy Birthday! Suzanne, Virginia Creeper is native and not invasive: http://plants.usda.gov/plantguide/pdf/pg_paqu2.pdf
Wonderful photos and happy belated birthday. It was interesting to get a look at a moth specifically associated with Virginia Creeper ... which makes it a partner to one of the Southeast's most pervasive, invasive vines.
Thanks Jemma! I still have TONS of stuff on my "to be spotted" list, and I'm sure I will never see it all. But always give me something to look forward to :)
Happy Birthday!! Moths ,owls etc are still on my list of "to be spotted" Cherish your spot!!
