Field Notes
Description:
Medium brown cap approx. 3 to 4" across. Short pink stipe with deep ribbing.
Growing in the depression where a large Hemlock tree had been ripped out including it's roots. Growing right in the sandy, rocky soil. There were 4 of these fungi.
Habitat:
Conifer forest of mainly Western Hemlock, Western Redcedar, and Fir. Understory of Oregon Grape and Salal with moss.
Notes:
The closest I can come to an ID is Gyromitra californica.
Found along the hiking trail to Radium Lake.
