Description:
About 4 cm long these are the largest of the North American Stoneflies.
Habitat:
Spotted in a wet bog meadow in the Cascade mountains at 3400 ft.
Notes:
A useful bio-indicator. The larvae of the American salmonfly live underwater during their early stages of life and are extremely sensitive to pollution. If their are chemicals in the water the larvae will die.
