Field Notes

Description:

First Grizzly Bear spotting.
I don't like that much to put pictures taken from a car, but as it's my first spotting of it, I share it with you.

Habitat:

Grizzlies are normally solitary, active animals, but in coastal areas, the grizzly congregates alongside streams, lakes, rivers, and ponds during the salmon spawn.

Notes:

I saw him really close by Jasper Town, I was sadly impressed that the day after, I saw him again and as it was along the road, so many people get out of their cars, buses etc and started to walk in his direction, even going to walk in the bushes... scaring the animal and putting his and their lives in danger...
Later on, I spoke with a park ranger and she told me if he was one of the two young grizzly bears, recently spotted around Jasper, and if he has a broken leg... probably hit by a car that came too close to see him as she said.
So, not so proud of my own species for that

Thank you Debbie, I know what you mean. I go into the Wild to encounter animals, so, in a way, I'm getting closer too. But I respect the animal and stay a couple of seconds, minutes maximum. Being alone, I try to not disturb animals, even if I do a little sometime I guess. Certainly not as the 60/70 tourists I have seen, going after this bear like crazies. It's all a moment when you are alone in the woods, being part of something, seeing Nature living, and respecting it. As I didn't know about remote cameras, hidden cameras etc to take close shots, well, the only way I found was to go in person, accepting the risks. Maybe one day I will be hired to photograph animals and spread this respectful message, but till then, I do it as I can. Thank for liking my photos, it's always a motivation for me.
I kknow how you feel about photos from cars/windows etc Frederic but as you say you don't want to miss a first sighting of something! it is very saddening to learn about inconsiderate people getting too close just so they can 'see better' though :-(
