Field Notes

Description:

Family: Geometridae. Subfamily: Ennominae. (Typical Geometer). Length: 48 mm. Yellow wings variably speckled and blotched purplish brown. PM line is sometimes a complete band. Male are typically more heavily patterned than larger females. Hosts for False Crocus: Various trees and low plants including catnip, goldenrod, ground ivy and dogwood. Hosts for Crocus: Deciduous trees and shrubs including basswood, blueberry, cherry, elm, maple.

Habitat:

Front yard on some bushes.

Notes:

Pattern and markings resembles more False Crocus but the size was closer to Crocus at nearly 2 inches wingspan.
