California Condor
Gymnogyps californianus
36.0966, -112.098
Field Notes
Description:
Huge bird with a 9.5 foot wingspan. The Condor can be told from the Turkey Vulture by the white on the forward part of the underside of the wings (TV has white along the trailing edge) and the large plank-like perfectly flat wings. From a distance Condors can appear to be small aircraft.
We saw 4 Condors at Grand Canyon NP; #80,# L4, #97 and one whose tag we could not read. Totally awesome birds.
