Field Notes

Description:

Nymphalidae; Satyrinae; Mycalesis perseus caesonia Wallengren, 1860. This Common Bushbrown shown here is in its wet season form. I spotted this butterfly in a rice field when I was out on a spider hunt. In our location, we are just about half way through the rice growing season and butterflies and moths are starting to show up on the crop. I did not spot any of the spiders I was looking for, but it won't be long before they appear.

Habitat:

Spotted in a rice field.
