Field Notes
Description:
Nymphs produce wax from special glands on the abdomen and other parts of the body. These are hydrophobic and help conceal the insects. At a certain point, the wax entirely covers the nymph. This one must have been young as it had no wax yet. Adult females of many families also produce wax which may be used to protect eggs.
