Field Notes

Description:

Spotted this right beside a jungle trail in the branches - two feet off the ground. Quietly coiled at his perch, it was literally an inch from the trail used by visitors to the jungle. Guessing from the coil, it was probably between 1.5m-2m long. Its brownish-orange tail-end was a dead giveaway that it was poisonous before noticing the pits below his eyes.

Notes:

The dorsal surface of this species is green and the ventral scales pale green. The first row of body scales are white, creating a body stripe which extends from the head to the tail. Occasionally this white stripe may have a reddish stripe below. The end of the tail is brownish. When active this venomous species should be approached with caution as it may attempt to bite.
