Peacock Pansy
Junonia almana almana
15.4557, 119.92
Field Notes
Description:
Nymphalidae; Nymphalinae; Nymphaliini; Junonia almana almana Linnaeus, 1758. Philippine Lepidoptera shows Junonia almana almana and does not mention Junonia almana. So, I assume that only the subspecies is present here in Philippines.
Habitat:
This Peacock Pansy was spotted in a rice field which was left uncultivated this season to allow the land to rest. When we do this, an amazing variety of grasses and foliage springs up very quickly and creates what I like to call a tropical meadow. This particular field has become dominated by Tropical Whiteweed (Ageratum conyzoides).

In addition to Philippine Lepidoptera, Thailand Nature Project confirms that Junonia almana almana is present in Philippines - https://www.thailandnatureproject.com/junonia-almana-almana.html
