Description:

Green grasshopper, Tipaklong in Tagalog, about 25mm in length, excluding the antennae. Valanga sp., subfamily Cyrtacanthacridinae, family Acrididae.

Some Valanga spp. grasshoppers are reported as pests of banana, palm, rubber, cocoa, and leguminous cover crops, throughout Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Guinea.

(Or is this Melicodes tenebrosa, Cyrtacanthacridinae/ sometimes placed in Catantopinae??)

Habitat:

Backyard at Biñan, Laguna, spotted eating leaves of our ornamental palm plant.
