Field Notes

Description:

Canada goose Scientific name: Branta canadensis. The Canada goose is a goose with a black head and neck, white patches on the face, and a brown body. Their diet includes green vegetation and grains. As soon as these new four goslings (covered in yellow plumage) were born, they were immediately capable of walking, swimming and finding their own food that is similar to the adult geese. Parents are often seen leading their goslings in a line, usually with one adult at the front, and the other at the back. They do not leave their parents until after the spring migration, when they return to their birthplace. These little goslings were spotted all grouped together resting while the parents stood guard. So cute!

Habitat:

Near pond's edge at Pocomoke River State Park, Pocomoke City, Maryland.
