Baobab
Adansonia digitata
-17.7705, 25.1881
Field Notes
Description:
2000 year old tree. This tree was used by lookouts during the Bush Wars in Africa, as it sits at the 4-corners region of Namibia, overlooking Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana. It is high enough for someone to see into Angola.
The trunk is riddled with bullet scars and the back side of the tree has steps made of heavy wire embedded in the bark. The bark feels like concrete and looks very much like the concrete fixtures zoos use in animal cages
Notes:
It was a long walk at a fast clip to get to the tree and back to the lodge before it got too hot outside. Still we saw so many great "little" spottings during the walk that it was worth it.
