Carolina chickadee
Poecile carolinensis
35.9132, -79.0558
Field Notes
Description:
I was lucky enough to see three of the five babies fledge; I think a fourth had jumped out of the nest box earlier in the day. Chickadee babies will sit on a branch and flutter their wings quickly (first photo) as a sign of wanting to be fed. The others called out before leaving their first home; two flexed their wings a bit before taking the leap into the wider world.
