Field Notes

Description:

Mushrooms with dark blackish purple caps about 30 mm wide. The stipe had the same base colour as the cap but was covered with flaky white tissue and staining the stipe brown were fallen spores. Gills were close, the same dark as the cap and showed brown spores.

Habitat:

Growing in a small clump in a eucalypt forest.

Notes:

Some of these are seen to have caps with a downy covering. The species seen here are said to be related to the Northern Hemisphere's C.violaceus.
